Mount Cook is New Zealand's tallest mountain. We caught a glimpse of her peak while enjoying a short hike and picnic at sunset near our lodging for the night. The next day, when we drove into Mt. Cook Village, the skies were overcast. Hiking was still excellent; we saw the Blue Lakes, Tasman Lake, and Tasman Glacier, but Mount Cook was behind clouds. Many tourists were lamenting not seeing the mountain that day, so we were thankful for our great views the night before.
