Roadtrip Scenery

Morning = Rainforest
What a difference in the scenery on this island. This morning we set off from Haast driving through rainforest, with the road like a tunnel flanked by palms, ferns, and green of every color.

As we neared Wanaka the views opened up to bright turquoise waters of Lakes Hawea and Wanaka.

Then, a stretch of our drive in late afternoon heading towards Aoraki Mt. Cook, turned into huge, open expanses of brownish-green reminding us of dry, desert mountains (this area is called the Lindis Valley).

In between everything described above, as well as any other drive previously, or yet-to-be mentioned, the views return to farm landscape with sheep dotting the hills.

The pictures posted in this entry are all taken on roads we traveled today!

Midday = Lake Hawea (above) & Lake Wanaka (below)

Afternoon = Brown

What happened to the green? Is this the moon??

Let there be SHEEP!

~ Out-takes ~     Rick, so happy to be let out of the car!
