Sydney: Taronga Zoo and Watson's Bay

Taronga is a zoo with a view! After arriving via ferry, we rode a gondola to the entrance at the top of the zoo because it’s built onto a giant hill facing downtown Sydney. The harbour bridge and opera house are the backdrop for almost every animal enclosure. It is a beautiful zoo, and extra fun for us, having so many animals we don’t find in US zoos.

The girls came prepared with lists of marsupials to find, which they had carefully copied from the Nic Bishop book which inspired this trip. At the end of the day, we were elated to have found almost all the marsupials on the lists without much effort!

In the evening, we took a ferry to Watsons Bay for dinner at the famous Doyle’s and a quick hike to a lookout spot called “The Gap.”
